Mother and daughter, both novelists and poets, talk about their books and their inspirations. Adèle Geras’s fourth novel for adults A Hidden Life is a family drama full of conflict, secrets and betrayals following the death of a wealthy matriarch. Born in Jerusalem, Adèle was an actress, singer and French teacher in Manchester before becoming a full-time writer in 1976. She has since published more than 90 books for children and young adults.

Sophie Hannah’s first book Little Face became a bestseller by word of mouth only. Her latest psychological thriller Hurting Distance is a dark novel about obsessive love and the evil that a psychopathic predator can inflict on his innocent victims. As an award-winning poet, her work is studied at GCSE and degree level.
