‘I see myself as a town crier, can-opener and flag-waver for poetry,’ said the newly appointed poet laureate in 1999. Recipient of numerous writing prizes, Andrew Motion has since become a patron of Chester Literature Festival and returns this evening to give the first public reading of the winning poems in the Cheshire Prize for Literature, and present the Chester and Ellesmere Port Schools’ Poetry Prize.
Professor of Creative Writing at Royal Holloway and co-founder of The Poetry Archive, he will also read from his acclaimed In The Blood: A Memoir of my Childhood, and present poems old and new.
The Cheshire Prize for Literature is managed by the University of Chester.
